California Power Authority:
Chuckawalla Valley State Prison

Blythe, CA
Company Overview:
The California Power Authority (CPA) mission is to furnish the citizens of California with reliable and affordable electrical power, ensure sufficient power reserves, assure stability and rationality in California's energy market, and encourage energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy resources.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
Installation Type:
Ground mounted installation
Size: 1.1 MW
Installation Date: June 2006
Project Overview:
The CPA began deploying solar with SunEdison in 2006, and now hosts 4 MW of clean, renewable solar power at eight locations to meet rising energy costs and a state mandate to implement renewable energy. One host is Chuckawalla Valley State Prison, a 1 MW ground mounted system installed in June 2006. The prison achieves three goals in hosting a solar system: it saves money on their energy bills, supports their state renewable energy mandates, and incurs no upfront capital expenses.

Customer Testimonial:
"SunEdison, working with the State of California, put together a total solar PV solution, from design to construction to activation. I was particularly impressed with the quality of construction, it was one of the most professionally run installations we've experienced and will help us achieve the Governor's alternative energy directive of a 20% grid power reduction by 2015."
