OTTAWA - The Canadian Solar Industries Association in partnership with SunEdison, North America's largest solar energy services provider, are sponsoring five university and college students from across Canada to participate in the upcoming CanSIA Solar Conference 2007 in Toronto, Nov. 19 - 20.
"Offering this opportunity to the youth that will make up Canada's renewable energy future is the fulfillment of a personal goal," said Elizabeth McDonald, CanSIA Executive Director. "Providing students with a chance to witness and discuss the business, government, research and community developments that will be presented at our conference is invaluable to our country's future success in this area."
According to Thomas M. (Tom) Rainwater, SunEdison CEO, "The key to the future of our planet is a common understanding among generations of the contribution that renewable energy, like solar, can provide. As a leading solar energy provider, we want to help educate the next generation about solar, and also to learn their perspective on our energy future. Through these two-way conversations with Canadian students and with all citizens, SunEdison better understands how to best serve our current and future energy needs."
CanSIA and SunEdison will be hosting the following students:
- Dianne Perkin, York University, Master of Environmental Studies, Planning Stream & Business and Environmental Graduate Diploma;
- Peter Litster, York University, Master of Environmental studies, Diploma in Business and Sustainability;
- Susanne Cardwell, University of Calgary (Alberta), Graduate student in communications and culture - developing a thesis on the marketing and communications issues related to sustainable energy with an emphasis on solar;
